One of the major responsibilities for the Town Kazi of Kilakarai is to perform the duties of an arbitrator.  Whoever faces disputes with any other family or a person within Kilakarai, the case is taken to the Office of the Kazi of Kilakarai to settle the dispute in a manner which could satisfy the norms of Shariah and the local traditions.  Disputes such as marriage, property, neighbourhood, etc., are some of the regular cases.

Nikkah

The Kazi solemnizes the Nikkah majlis performed for the couples of all Jamath within Kilakarai.  The Nikkah is usually registered in the Jamath Nikkah Register.  If any Nikkah is performed for an outsider of Kilakarai and if they have proper local Jamath letter, then the Kazi of Kilakarai performs the Nikkah by duly registering the same in the Nikkah register of the Office of the Kazi. 

In case of unavailability of the Kazi for the occasion, then the local Imam of the represented muhallah who is also authorized by the kazi will perform the Nikkah within the local Jamath.  Those Imams who perform the Nikkah are only authorized for performing the Nikkah only.

Issue of Certificates

The Kazi issues certificates such as Marriage Certificate,  Legal  Heir  Certificate, Community Certificate.
